Yes, it’s quite easy. It powers almost 40% of the websites on the web and yes, millions of people just like you and I build and manage their own websites.

Pick Your Technology Stack And Keep It Lean And Clean
With WordPress being such a big Open Source project, there are literally a dozen options or plugins for every single thing you want or need.
The challenge that arises with a gazillion options is time suck in testing and going down the rabbit hole only to realize that the plugin might or might not meet your needs completely.
Worse yet, is the groundhog day effect with the rabbit holes. Yes, that’s a thing 🙂
That’s when you realize that this thing (plugin/SaaS) you have invested your time and money in does not play well with the other tech you have. It breaks right when you believe you are so close to accomplishing that goal, and you wake up the next day going down another rabbit hole.

When it comes to the choice of content editors, the debate on which page editor is best will never end. Hop into any page builder community or WordPress groups and you will find people praise or complain about every page builder out there.
For me, Elementor Pro (yep, not the free version) is the way to go because of its ease of use and robust 3rd party add-ons and a boatload of resources.
Yes, it has its drawback in terms of performance, but I prefer this one still as I know how to mitigate the performance hit.
Securing Your Website
There are multiple layers of security that you have to implement. Similar to your home – locking the door, while keeping the windows open won’t do.
You need to have three layers of security for your website.
- Cloudflare –At the very top of your layered protection is Cloudflare. It is amazing even at the free tier. Think of them as the cops patrolling the streets to keep everything in order.
- WP Security Ninja Pro –At the application level, the Pro version of this plugin helps ensure that the doors and windows to your website are secure.
- LastPass – This tool helps with keeping your passwords strong and also makes it easy to keep your passwords unique.
Fast and Furious
Well, I just had to use that phrase because making your website fast requires a team working together to win the race.
Just like security, there are multiple layers to make your website fast.
- Cloudflare – If the roads are full of potholes, forget going fast anywhere, even in a Lamborghini. Your user is where the speed optimization needs to start. By using Cloudflare DNS, we can speed up how fast they come to our website.
- Cloudways –You need a fast server running your website. Using a Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a no brainier compared to shared hosting.
- Breeze Caching – There is a lot of code and content in your site and this caching plugin will help deliver that in a fast and efficient way.
- WPVivid Image Optimization Pro –Images are one of the major factor of slow sites as they can be rather large if we are not careful in what we upload, so we need this to optimize the images automatically.
Bakups And More Backups
Your website can have multiple points of failure, so having an automated backup is a must. Having multiple automated backups is just more prudent considering it’s your business we are talking about.
You need server level backup and application level backup.
- Cloudways – Another benefit of hosting with Cloudways is that they have a per application backup feature you can enable with couple clicks.
- WPVivid Pro – This plugin allows you to take a backup on schedule and automatically move it to say Google Drive for added protection from a single point of failure.
Integrations
This really depends on the rest of the tools you have to run your business. At a minimum, you want your website leads going into your email service provider.
- Elementor Pro – Popups are Elementor Pro only feature and useful for your lead gen efforts. Here are some built-in integrations to send those leads your way – Email, Mailchimp, Webhook, Drip, ActiveCampaign, GetResponse, ConvertKit, MailerLite, Slack, and Discord.
Searchable
You can think of search at two levels. Searchable in the search engines and searchable once on your website.
Here are two plugins that help you do just that.
- SEOPress Pro – Pro version lets you optimize your website for Google just the way they like it. SEOPress Pro has schema, redirects and other features to give you that edge.
- JetSmartFilters – Default WordPress search is ok, but adding filters is a smart move to let your website visitors find more of what they like from you.
Marketing
Before you start any marketing, you need to have a system in place to track our marketing. Yes, simple stuff like how many clicks you got from a specific share of your blog post can be a challenge to track and why you need to address this right in your WordPress site.
- BetterLinks – This plugin brings link shortening, tracking & management inside your WordPress ecosystem. If used properly, this can not only change how you do your social promotions, but it can also change the trajectory of your collaboration and cross promotion efforts with influencers.

- Pixel Cat – Facebook conversion pixel manager, even though not a must have, makes it super easy to fire your events for FB marketing.
E-Commerce
Closing deals and getting paid should be as simple and friction free as possible. When using WordPress, Woo Commerce is the go to solution for most use cases but can be overkill for others – So, here I would say the solution depends on your needs.
- Woo Commerce – This plugin can pretty much meet any need. Be it physical products, digital goods, product variations, custom configurations, instant downloads, and affiliate items. Bookings, memberships, subscriptions and your payment providers are only an extension away.
- Other Commerce Options – E-commerce can be a simple buy now option or a payment plan with more logic. So, this really depends on your offering, your business tools and your payment processing provider.
If you stay focused and implement these pillars for your website, you will have a solid and robust platform to grow your business on.
